ICONIX Waterworks Helps Fast-Track Vancouver Island Motorsport Circuit

From conception to completion, building Canada’s only year-round driving resort has been all about speed. The idea for the Vancouver Island Motorsport Circuit, located in BC’s temperate Cowichan Valley, was first conceived at an auto dealer meeting at the Las Vegas Raceway in 2014. Since then, the 19-hectare private motorsport club has quickly taken shape.

In addition to a world-class road track, driving dynamic area, and off-road track, the Vancouver Island Motorsport Circuit will feature a 15,000 sq. ft. clubhouse and restaurant, an outdoor observation deck, a presentation centre, and four pit garages with high-tech set up bays and staging areas.

ICONIX Waterworks teamed up with long-time customer, Triple T Excavating, to supply underground water utilities as well as sewer, drainage, and concrete materials to the project. SupErb Construction Ltd. was the general contractor.

“This project was designed with some very aggressive deadlines,” said Kevin Arscott, Account Manager at ICONIX. “But complex planning and project execution are two of our main areas of expertise, so we were able to meet our customers’ demands. Our project role also evolved significantly, meaning a lot of extra collaboration with engineers and vendors to fast-track the entire water supply process. It was challenging and a lot of fun.”

In early February, Arscott learned that the decision had been made to hook up the motorsports facility to the District of North Cowichan’s municipal water supply (rather than install a domestic drinking water system on site.) A month later, ICONIX delivered the 1.5 km of waterline pipe required to do the job.

“I really don’t think we could have achieved so much, so quickly without the help of the iCONIX team. They are solutions experts and worked closely with all parties to develop an efficient, cost-effective installation plan. They then delivered the product we needed in an extremely timely manner," said Rick Tomlinson, Owner of Triple T Excavating.

The Vancouver Island Motorsport Circuit caters to private members, corporate events, charity functions, and automotive manufacturers and dealers that want to use the world-class track to showcase their new vehicles.

During the grand opening in April 2016, dealers, journalist, and clients from across Canada were invited to visit the facility and test-drive 18 super sports cars by Audi over a three-week period.
